This is a question every bride and groom will ask themselves at some point in their wedding planning…
There are lots of ways to organise your wedding, but most are either:
- Choosing a wedding venue or hotel where you buy into their packages, or
- Organising everything yourselves – No packages at all.
Both of these options have their advantages and disadvantages… but if you want your wedding to be unique and perfectly suited to you as a couple – we think the independent route is the way to go!
Why?….
Let’s explore a few reasons why you might want to go down the independent wedding route:
We are slightly biased here, but we think that this is the BIGGEST benefit of organising your own wedding. Most hotels or wedding venues will have food included in your package, and most will make you choose from a pre-set menu.

2. No Time Pressures
Wedding Venues and Hotels often need to get as many brides and grooms through the door as possible. Sometimes they have multiple weddings going on at the same time and there is a risk that you may even meet another bride on your trip to the loo!
Independent Wedding Venues usually have a more relaxed feeling to them with no time pressures. If you are having a marquee wedding for example, it’s usually set up on a Thursday ready for your Saturday wedding, with no big rush to strike down afterwards.
3. Drink
When we (Kemp and Kemp) work at Independent venues, we simply don’t have these charges. We’ll happily pop and pour your drinks – WITHOUT charge. This makes for a big saving on your drinks bill and potentially a very wild party indeed!
4. The Rules
When you are handing over a very large sum of money to a hotel or wedding venue, it’s unlikely that you’re going to be very happy about the list of rules you receive in return. ‘No check in before 3pm’, ‘Out by 10am’, ‘No music after 11pm’ are some of the common rules. If you are using an independent wedding venue – especially a marquee… you can make the rules!
5. Costs and Project Management
We won’t pretend that the Independent Wedding option is the cheapest route (although village halls make brilliant venues and really ARE cheap), and whichever way you look at it, this type of wedding involves lots of hard work! It’s likely that you’ve not had to co-ordinate a wedding before and it may seem daunting, but if you choose suppliers that specialise in Independent Weddings (like us) – you will be helped along.
