Behind the Scenes: What Really Goes into Creating Your Perfect Wedding Feast

Table of Contents

Creating a perfect wedding feast isn’t just about cooking a few dishes and hoping for the best. There’s a whole load of preparation and care that goes into it, something we’ve become rather good at here at Kemp and Kemp Catering.

From the planning process to the big day itself, we work tirelessly to give you the best catering experience possible. But have you ever wondered what that looks like on our end? Well, in case you’re curious, here’s a little peak behind the curtain into everything that goes into creating your perfect wedding feast.

Setting things in motion

So that we’re sure we know precisely what it is you want at your wedding feast, the first thing we’ll do with you is have a call where Karen will talk through your options. Essentially, you can eat whatever you want; we can cook any dish from any culture, allowing you to build your dream menu.

If you then decide to choose us for your big day, that’s when we’ll have a more in-depth planning meeting. We’ll go through the entire menu with a fine tooth comb, discussing every element of the wedding catering. This is your opportunity to tell us exactly how you see the wedding feast going, and our opportunity to answer any concerns you may have.

Easing your mind before the big day

At Kemp and Kemp Catering, we firmly believe in the idea “Worry in advance so the day flows seamlessly.” That’s why we ensure no stone is left unturned when it comes to planning the catering for your big day. If there is ever to be a problem on our end, it’s better to iron it out now rather than when you’re walking down the aisle.

We order the raw materials in for the cooking team well in advance, so there’s no last minute panic about unexpected shortages. On top of this, all our dishes are 100% our own, from the custard to each and every canape.

That means you can rest assured your food will be fresh, delicious, and packed full of flavour.

And just to calm your wedding worries a little more, we send all of our couples a comprehensive 20-page checklist covering each and every aspect of the wedding meal, answering questions such as:

  • What times can you eat?
  • What about people with dietary requirements?
  • What wines will we serve?
  • When can we pour your toasts?
  • What are we pouring for your toasts?
  • What are we serving people who don’t drink alcohol?
  • What’s happening with the cake?

Catering isn’t just about getting the food in though – linen, crockery, cutlery, staff, and transport all have to be accounted for as well. We make sure that all gets sorted long before the wedding, so you’re not in for any nasty surprises on the big day.

Making sure the day runs smoothly

Once your pre-wedding worries have been quelled, it’s important the day itself actually goes to plan. All that preparation sets you up nicely but there are a few other Kemp and Kemp tricks of the trade that are sure to turn your wedding meal into a success.

Based on when you want to eat and any other timings to work around, we’ll create a detailed itinerary for the front of house and kitchen to follow on the day, ensuring everyone’s on the same page and there aren’t any communication complications.

The result? Your food will be served at its tip-top best because everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet (not literally, of course!). We also create a service plan for the day so that the food comes out quickly, efficiently, and without any unnecessary faff.

At Kemp and Kemp Catering, we’re proud to say we accommodate for all dietary needs. Whether guests are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan or anything else, we can make something tasty for them.

And with a detailed table plan, we’ll map precisely where all dietary needs are located, making sure everyone gets exactly what they ordered.
