Kemp and Kemp brought this vision to reality. The food we planned with Karen was simply stunning and the sharing platters that were a mix of vegetarian and meat satisfied everyone. We got a lot of compliments on all the food, but the ‘Eastern’ Mess dessert -served in huge bowls that people could share - will go down in legend. Unfortunately although the food on the day of our Marquee Wedding was in the main part excellent. We would advise against booking Kemp and Kemp as your wedding caterers. Having diligently filled out their 'Ultimate Guide and Checklist' and clearly labelling dietary requirements on our Table Plans (to their requirements) our two Coeliac Guests were served non-Gluten Free dishes. When the individuals requested multiple reassurances that the food offered was suitable for them they were mis-informed until after it had been consumed. Leaving them to deal with the consequences over the following days In my opinion this lack of care is unacceptable, and dangerous depending on the dietary requirement/allergy. Unfortunately we also felt the staff were disorganised and unprofessional on the day: disputing requests to keep back of house tidy; being quite lazy with reception drink service; needing multiple prompts to clear the tables after service to leave the marquee in a suitable state. Perhaps we should have known earlier as the 'tasting sessions' earlier in the year left many more questions than answers as it seemed to be used as a testing lab for new (bad) dishes rather than a moment to show off their options. Peter Terrington2024-07-09 I would give 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Kemp & Kemp catered our wedding for over 100 day guests, plus extras in the evening, and it was perfect. Right from first contact through to the food itself, everything was excellent. Richard and Karen run a brilliant operation, with excellent communication, helpful checklists, and plenty of suggestions for local suppliers for anything else you might need on the day. Chatting with Karen about menu selection was a joy, and she expertly guided us through the best combinations for our tastes and for those of our guests with allergies or other dietary requirements. Our chosen canapés (1 meat - roast beef in mini Yorkshire with horseradish; 1 fish - smoked salmon croute; 2 veggie - red pepper tart, and asparagus with quail egg) were as pretty as they were delicious, and exactly what a canapé should be - tasty and easy to eat whilst standing and chatting. For the Wedding Breakfast itself we opted for sharing boards for each course, which is a lovely way to help your guests to interact with one another throughout the meal. Our chosen starter platter was a range of delicious, Mediterranean-style dips, with a tomato and mozzarella salad, and baked halloumi. Our main course was outstanding stuffed and rolled porchetta, with bowls of white bean salad with thyme, roast cauliflower and broccoli in chilli and garlic, and baby roast potatoes, all of which complimented one another brilliantly. The sharing boards of desserts (dark chocolate and orange mousse; tarte au citron; fruit salad with ginger; sticky toffee pud)were also a real hit. The portions on each course were incredibly generous and the food perfectly cooked. Our guests absolutely raved about it all (and they included more than one retired professional chef). Our evening food was tapas. Again very generous portions, and totally delicious. The mushrooms in sherry sauce were one of the most yummy things I've had in a long time. It was pure greed on my part to come back for seconds, but I certainly wasn't the only one. Kemp and Kemp Catering is run by us – Richard and Karen Kemp.
Karen is the culinary queen, and responsible for the beautiful food that we make and serve, and that has won us West Midlands Caterer of the Year at the National Wedding Industry Awards six times and counting.
Since 2010, we’ve catered over 700 weddings, and provided our remarkable food to over 70,000 guests.
How did we get here? Your guess is as good as ours.
We rather fell into this world – Karen has always been an exceptional cook, interested in flavours, textures, and beautifully designed plates of food that people never forget.
One day – neither of us are quite sure how – the hobby became a job, and we sold our produce at farmers’ markets all around the Midlands.
Next thing we knew, we were selling out our stand each and every week with time to spare, and requests for catering were coming in left, right and centre.
You can probably guess the rest – weddings became our primary “thing” and that’s where we’ve been for nearly a decade and a half, winning awards and delighting brides, grooms and guests all over the country. (Most of our weddings are in the Midlands, but we’ll go anywhere from North Yorkshire to North London)
Our team has grown a lot in that time too, with several incredible chefs, and superb waiting staff part of the Kemp family, and as a team we’re incredibly passionate about delivering exceptional food that marks your wedding out as an unforgettable occasion.
